Cigarette Smoke Reduction

At APB Restoration Detailing we have state of the art equipment and products to help in the cleaning and decontamination process.
​
It is not an uncommon fact that cigarette smoke is extremely difficult, sometimes impossible, to remove from the interior of a vehicle. There are a variety of cleaning methods to help reduce these smells but only one that has regular sucess in significantly reducing the smell and sometimes eliminating it altogether.

We use an Ozone Generator which generates O3 (3 oxygen molecules bonded as opposed to 2 in normal oxygen that we breath) which through a process called Oxidation breaks down long chain cabon molecules (organics) leaving only short chain (iroganic) molecules which are significantly less harmful and easier to remove.

Although it is perfectly possible to simply use an Ozone Generator in a smokey car to remove the smell present in the vehicle, this would be inefficient as the source of the smell (hidden ash within the seats and carpets) would remain and the smell would quickly return. This is why we follow the process below

Thorough hoover of all carpets, matts, seats and headlining.
Decontamination and wipe down of all interior surfaces using interior shampoo and detailing brushes with microfibre towels.
Drillbrush shampoo agitation of carpets, car matts and seats (not applicable to Leather seats) followed by head liner to deep clean.
Wetvac extraction to remove deep contaminants and residue of drillbrush shampoo agitation
Followed by 30 minute treatment of Ozone (Ozone can be hazardous, see disclaimer below)

Although an Ozone treatment is BY FAR the most effective treatment for the removal of smoke in a vehicle we unfortunatly CANNOT guarantee it will be totally removed. Sometimes the smell is just too ingrained in the fabric to ever be removed and is can be considered damage. This is why lease companies will charge a significant figure if a vehicle is returned smelling of smoke.

We can guarantee that the smell will be significantly reduced and may, over time, disappear completely.

DISCLAIMER: Ozone can be toxic if inhaled. Once the treatment has been applied, the vehicle will be inacessible for 4 hours to allow time for the ozone to do it's work as well as dissipate and break down to normal oxygen. APB Restoration detailing will inform you about what protocol to follow and when you can use the vehicle next and it is your responsibility to follow this guidance for your own safety.
