How We Do Things - Exterior

Decontamination
This is what really separates detailing from valetting and a basic car wash. Decontamination involves chemicals such as TFR, Fallout Remover, snow foam, Tar and Glue remover, Bug and Insect Remover and many more to ensure the paintwork and vehicle surfaces are completely free of contaminants. They are liberally applied then left to soak giving them time to do their work before being removed.

The reason why the decontamination stage is so important relates back to the general rule in life that preparation makes all the difference with the final result.

Without appropriate decontamination the paint correction/enhancement process can be hindered by contaminants on the surface of the paint. Even without a correction stage these contaminants hinder the adhesion of waxes, sealants and ceramic coatings to the surface reducing their useful life.

TFR (Traffic Film Remover) - As the name suggest this removes traffic film which is an oily gritty residue accumulated from tar and asphalt degradation.
Fallout Remover - This product dissolves iron contamination accumulated from the degradation of brake pads and discs.
Snow Foam - This product safely breaks down various contaminants and safely lifts them off the surface of the paintwork before being rinsed off to eradicate the chance of swirl marks being applied to the paintwork.
Tar & Glue Remover - This product removes tar accumulated from new road surfaces.
Bug & Insect Remover - This product is specialy formulated to remove the baked on remnants of insects usually found on front bumpers and mirrors.
Wheel Cleaner - This product is none-acid and specifically formulated for brake dust and the iron filament removal.
APC - All Purpose Cleaner - This product is used around badges and emblems especially and nooks and crannies to get at ingrained dirt.
Glass Cleaner - This product has no silicons or waxes and is solely intended for automotive glass restoring it's natural hydrophobicity.
IPA - Isopropyl Alcohol - This is used to remove any residue of previous products to ensure the surface is free of any and all contaminants ensuring no inhibition of the application of protection products or the abrahsion of the enhancement/correction process.
Interior Shampoo - This product is used to safely wipe down interior surfaces leaving no residue.
Carpet & Seat Shampoo - Specifically used with drill brush agitation to remove stains and dirt you didn't even know was there.

Correction/Enhancement
This stage is where the magic really happens. We use DAS6 PRO PLUS Dual Action polishers combined with a variety of different grade HexLogik correction pads and compounds including Menzerna and Scholl to remove paintwork imperfections such as swirl marks and marring.

Dual action polishers use a rotating elliptical orbit without forced motion to ensure the abrasion process is safe and won't damage the paintwork in any way. This rotating elliptical orbit also covers a larger area with less pressure providing more even coverage of the abrasion compound resulting in a higher quality finish.

We use Scholl s20 Black for our single stage paint enhancement packages. We also use Menzerna compounds ranging from 400 to 3500 to help eliminate specific irregularities such as scratches and marring.

Protection
This stage, in reality, is the most important. Although layers of protection from waxes, polymer sealants and ceramic coatings are between 3 and 6 thousandths of a millimeter thick they are the only thing protecting your paintwork from UV rays, bird bombs and the myriad of other contaminants your car encounters on a daily basis.

Of course, we offer a comprehensive range from good old fashioned waxes and polymer sealants to the all new ceramic coatings of the detailing world. They each have their benefits and drawbacks making an informed choice all the more important.
For instance:
Ceramic coatings have fantastic longevity and hydrophobicity but very little filling qualities and are susceptible to water marks.
Waxes produce very high gloss levels and can last up to 6 months but are more susceptible to erosion if pore wash techniques are applied.
Polymer sealants are a great middle ground but only tend to last 2 to 3 months.

We can advise you on how to best care for your car depending on how it is used and cared for.
